Georges Aperghis and the Zig Bang, January 2018

Meanwhile preparing the Gabinett of Curiosities some of the Zoniests were working on the texts from Zig Bang by Georges Aperghis. The composer has had the residency this year in our course and it has been a great honour to work with him until now.

The concert happened on January 8, openning the whole week of masterclass with Georges. Zig Bang is a collection of text, where each of them is following a theme (like Presto or Dance) or a pattern that constructs the form. They are extremely musical and at the same a big challange for a musician. The text that I chose as my solo piece is Dans Halaf and is based on words starting with the letter ‘H’. Practicing it made me go through hyperventilation to the state of complete embarrassment when someone found me practicing my choreography. But it was a great experience, the concert was very exciting (we ran trough the whole Academy taking the audience with us) and pretty successful, judging the feedback of the composer we received the next day.

The masterclass with Georges brought one more exciting project to life. Together with Sophie Wahlmüller and Ellen Fallowfield I prepared a string trio Faux Movement and played it for the composer. I amreally looking forward to working with the two in the future…
